Common S3nse is Blockchain Inclusive, Freedom Maximalism, Cypherpunk values over tribalism, the EU Parliament is on a steady Orwellian path and Sal the Agorist is coming to CS!
Over the years, I’ve seen it happen again and again, the creeping tribalism, the “my crypto is better than yours”.
As a professional crypto cheerleader, I’ve cheered for specific teams. I loved it, the feeling of togetherness, the feeling of belonging, changing the world with a specific group of people from across the world. It’s thrilling.
However, today I feel different, I don’t want to champion one team, one ticker or one blockchain. We are too early, tech is still being built, the rails are shaky and I want to embrace the wild west, the new frontiers and I don’t want to lose my peripheral view. I had to break out of my own echo chambers.
What influences me, also influences our events, the content, the speakers, the partners. All of it really. And I take my job seriously, I want our events to remain open to all, a true battleground of ideas, an exciting place to learn and debate - I leave behind the echo chambers events. At least that’s the crazy bet for this year’s edition.
Reflected in our rebrand, I left ETHDam behind, to embrace Common S3nse, championing the cypherpunk values over a specific niche subculture.
Freedom, over maximalism.
It also means, that last week, I got the 1st "you're not focused on ETH specifically" so we can't support your event.
So if you are a privacy builder, security freak, a freedom lover, someone who want to debate, learn and welcomes friction, I would love to see you at Common S3nse.
Chat Control, or how the EU desperately wants to become a dystopian Orwellian meme
The EU is planning to require a passport to access the internet. YES you read that correctly. And they want to block VPNs to enforce it: "The new age verification system cannot be bypassed via VPN."
A digital passport. For the internet. A system where every click, every transaction, every website visit is tied to your passport.
The EU Parliament has already voted on Chat Control three times.
Vote 1: restrict it.
Vote 2: In March Parliament rejected it. 311 to 228.
Vote 3: Tuesday. Same question.
Vote 4: This coming Thursday, again. (and this vote will take place, right before summer recess, when most MPs are already tapped out on vacay mode)
This is not consumer protection.
This is digital authoritarianism.
